A domestic shooting in Jefferson Township, Dauphin County, has left a husband and wife dead in what Pennsylvania State Police are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Authorities said 45-year-old Taryn Morgan was found dead inside a home at 94 Carsonville Road on Thursday afternoon after suffering a gunshot wound. Her husband, 46-year-old Dennis Morgan, was discovered at the same location with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was airlifted to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in critical condition but was not expected to survive, according to state police.
Troopers from the Lykens barracks responded to the scene at approximately 2:13 p.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance. The Dauphin County coroner pronounced Taryn Morgan dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed that Dennis Morgan’s injuries were self-inflicted.
Investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the public and described the incident as isolated. The case remains under active investigation as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The Morgans were residents of Halifax and reportedly owned the Carsonville Hotel, a well-known local restaurant located near the scene. The establishment was closed for a private event following the incident.
Taryn Morgan was also a longtime educator in the Upper Dauphin Area School District, where she worked as an agriculture teacher for more than two decades. The district confirmed her death in a public statement, noting she and her husband shared three children.
Community members expressed shock and grief in the aftermath of the tragedy, describing the news as difficult to process. Friends said they struggled to believe what had happened, while first responders also described the scene as emotionally challenging.
Officials say crime of this nature is rare in the rural area, and residents continue to mourn the loss of two well-known members of the community as investigators continue their work.
